Calvados is the county with the second highest number of ancient monuments |
Our county boasts exceptional architectural, artistic and religious riches, with 2 “towns of historical and artistic interest” (Caen and Honfleur), the basilica in Lisieux (750,000 visitors) and the Bayeux Tapestry (381,000 visitors).
It also has some major historical landmarks, including all the places and museums linked to D-Day ( Colleville American Cemetery, Arromanches, the Caen Memorial), which attract more than 4 million visitors altogether.

- Hotels represent 22% of commercial accommodation : 284 hotels, 3 million guest nights. 29% of their customers are foreign tourists (42% of these are from the UK).
- Calvados also offers good-quality rural accommodation (self-catering and B&B)

The 2001-2006 county tourism development plan
Calvados County Council is offering funding to help improve the quality of existing accommodation, promote the county’s heritage and encourage the development of leisure and entertainment amenities, footpaths and cycle paths, tourist information centres and better signposting.
